After Effects is a product from Adobe used to create, almost 3D, animations from 2D images.
It is a piece of software that seats between Photoshop and PremierPro.
1-We start by creating a new project. Following with the creation of a new composition.
3- Choosing the format for the animation, in this case PAL D1/DV Widescreen Square Pixel, which seams to be the most compatible with European formats of reproduction.
4- The length of the animation, which will appear in the main screen as a time line. In this case is 10 seconds.
5- Once this is done, we are presented with the main After Effects working layout.
6- After this initial setup, we can import the Photoshop file(s) with the images that will be used to create the animation.
7- The layers will appear in similar format as they do in Photoshop, Illustrator and other similar software but this time on the top left me menu.
8- By dragging and dropping the Photoshop layers into the composition contents (bottom left), we are adding the images that we will be using in the composition. In this case we just added the background for our animation.
In the arrow drop menu there are various options for each added image.
We can control position, size, rotation, etc. We make no change in this layer and we record this in the timeline for the entire sequence of the animation.
9- A balloon is added to the animation and in the transform drop menu, the position and size are changed. This change is registered across 10 seconds, what will animate the balloon during this time, making look as if it is moving close to us.
10- A photoshop layer with a white triangle is added to the animation and is made rotate at a chosen point, making it look as if a beam of light is being project in the sky.
The triangle rotates up and down at intervals of 2 seconds. During these intervals of time the speed that the triangle rotates can be adjusted in order to look more natural.
11- The animation can be now be exported by adding it to Render Queue.
12- In the output settings we choose QuickTime as the format to be exported.
13-In the format options the video codec is sett to be H.264.
14- In the last menu we can change the name of the composition and where we want to save it.
For the second exercise we start with this photo on Photoshop, which we duplicate 8 times. This will be used to create an 3D animation with 2D images.
We then crop layer by layer so at the end we have each isle in a separated layer.
Once all the isles are in their own layer we can, by following steps 1 to 9, import the Photoshop fileinto AfterEffetcts.
We add a camera to the animation.
The preview layout into is changed to 2 horizontal views.
On the left view we can see a top view of the camera with the all the layers at the same position. The triangle represent the view angle of the camera
We change the position value of each layer to create a 3D space. The layers in the animation will appear at the distance given here. The scale of each layer is adjusted to cover all the view angle of the camera.
The camera and layers attributes can be adjusted and their color, color, scale, distortion can be changed and these changes registered into the timeline.
The animation is then exported repeating steps 11 to 14.
